Stoke defender Ibrahim Sonko remains a doubt ahead of the visit of Sunderland with a groin injury.

He missed Sunday's defeat to Manchester City and manager Tony Pulis will make a late decision on his fitness.

Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Grodon has only a 50% chance of being fit to face Stoke after missing Saturday's win over Newcastle with a twisted ankle.

Kenwyne Jones is in contention after making his comeback from four months out with a knee ligament injury.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane on the throw-in threat of Stoke midfielder Rory Delap:

"Because they're in the Premier League there's more media exposure and people talk about Stoke they've mentioned Rory and he's an asset for their team.

"We can't just get bogged down with that area of their team, they've got some good players and experience, physically a strong team.

"But we've played Arsenal, Wigan, Aston Villa and that's part of the challenge of playing in the Premier League and that's where I've had to improve on the squad.

"I think we're stronger physically and mentally as a set of players."
